Part two of anime Mardock Scramble: The Second Combustion is set for release on DVD and Blu-ray on July 25th. The second of three planned anime movies based on Tow Ubukata’s award-wining sci-fi novels was released in theaters back on September 2011. The new Blu-ray (BD) release comes with additional bonuses as a deluxe edition and both the BD and DVD editions include English subtitles. More details on the release and video previews follow.
Mardock Scramble follows the story of teenage prostitute Rune Balot who is murdered but resurrected under a special ordinance by Dr. Easter and his A.I. Universal Tool. Re-born as a powerful but conflicted cyborg Balot helps hunt down the worst psychotic criminals including the killer who took her original life. The second movie begins with Balot in a critical situation after vicious battle.
A cancelled anime/OVA series under development by studio GONZO of the Mardock Scramble novels happened in 2006 basically due to economic and business conditions with the studio.
The anime movies are produced by up-and-coming production group GoHands who will also provide fall anime “K”.
The first movie – Mardock Scramble: First Compression aired in theaters October 2010 and released on DVD/BD August 2011. Mardock Scramble: The Second Combustion aired in theaters September 2011 and release will be on July 25th 2012. The third and final movie in the series, Mardock Scramble: The Third Exhaustion, is scheduled for theatrical release the end of September 2012.
This release is offered in a deluxe Blu-ray edition and a DVD edition:
– Blu-ray HD 1080p version of anime that includes English subtitles and no regional encoding. Bonuses – 60-page booklet, resized theater brochure, SD card reader in shape of casino coin, SD card, special packaging, making-of video footage, promotional videos, and audio commentaries.
