
The month of January sees another AKB48 family group in the top spot, this time its SKE48 and their single “Kataomoi Finally” that sold over one-half million for the month. The next 3 spots find singles from BUMP OF CHICKEN, KinKi Kids, and Korean singer Kim Hyun Joong respectively and all surpassed the 100,000 sold mark.
Finishing the top 5 singles for the month is super seiyuu/singer Nana Mizuki and her single “Synchrogazer” which is featured in Winter anime Symphogear with over 69,000 sold.
On the monthly album charts EXILE and their album “EXILE JAPAN/Solo” spent 2 weeks in the number #1 spot In January and easily takes the top spot for the month with over 336,000 sold. In the #2 spot is ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION and their album “BEST HIT AKG” with over 133,000 sold. Rounding out the top 3 is Koda Kumi and her album “JAPONESQUE” with over 118,000 sold.

BUMP OF CHICKEN and their new single “GOOD LUCK” topped the singles charts with more than 135,000 sold. The single is featured as the theme song to film “Always Sanchome no Yuhi ‘64”.
As predicated in our Chart Preview it was very close for the 2nd and 3rd spots but IDOLING!!!’s new single, “MAMORE!!!” with 56,232 sold just edged out Acid Black Cherry’s 5th consecutive release single “YES” with 54,434. Fourth spot went to easy listening pop group Ikimonogakari and their 22nd single “Itsudatte Bokura wa”.

AKB48 took their turn blasting the charts with their single “Kaze wa Fuiteiru” selling over 1.3 million copies. Landing in second for the week was MBLAQ and their single “Baby U!” This single is also featured as the opening theme for anime Beelzebub.
Still showing strong was BUMP OF CHICKEN with their single “Zero” it was #2 in its opening week and held at #3 this past week. AKB48 sister group NMB48 hit the charts in the prior week at #1 with their 2nd single “Oh My God!” and this week it slipped back to the number 4 spot.
Fall anime theme songs from Sphere, Maaya Sakamoto, and cast of Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai make the charts in the 7th, 8th and 10th spots respectively.
On the album side music from the Persona 4 game charted at #1 and Girls Generation’s newest album "The Boys” (import for Japan) charted #2.

AKB48 sister group out of Namba, Osaka, NMB48 again blasted the charts at #1 with over 265,000 sold of their 2nd single “Oh My God!” With their 1st single also selling at +200K makes it two in a row for NMB48 and is a first for any female group. Making a strong showing at #2 is BUMP OF CHICKEN with their single “Zero” at over 163,000 copies sold. “Zero” is featured as theme for popular RPG game “FINAL FANTASY TYPE-0.” KARA should have picked a different week to release their newest single “Winter Magic” but they did well to land in the #3 spot.
Fall anime theme songs from Minori Chihara and Maaya Sakamoto make the charts in the 9th and 10th spots respectively.
On the album side duo Tegomass consisting of NEWS members Yuya Tegoshi and Takahisa Masuda hit the #1 spot with their 3rd album release “Magic of Tegomass.” Kazuyoshi Saito and his new album “45 STONES” slides into the #2 spot just ahead of Coldplay’s “Mylo Xyloto” in #3.
