AKB48 breaks the 1 million sold mark again topping the Oricon weekly singles charts with “GIVE ME FIVE!”. The single sold 1,287,217 making it their 6th consecutive single to sell over 1 million copies. With this single AKB48 tops the record books with most consecutive 1 million selling singles with 6 (Pink Lady 5) and #1 singles with 12 (Morning Musume 11).

On the album charts Tokyo Jihen and their final compilation album “Tokyo Collection” tops with 36,004 copies sold. Landing in the 2nd spot selling 33,290 copies is Chatmonchy with their compilation album “Chatmonchy BEST 2005-2011”.

The charts for December 2011 are dominated by another 1+ million selling single by AKB48 with their “Uekara Mariko” selling a huge 1,273,748 and putting it nearly 1 million ahead of the second place single. The rest of the top 5 singles is dominated by boy groups with Kis-My-Ft2, KAT-TUN, Tohoshiniki, and SMAP landing in the 2nd through 5th spots.

On the album side EXILE with album that includes member ATSUSHI’s solo debut “EXILE JAPAN/ Solo” takes the #1 spot with 350,277 sold. This album dropped on January 1st 2012 which was included in the last chart of the 2011 and they sold another 150,000+ the first week of January. In the #2 spot is Perfume and their album “JPN” just ahead of KARA’s consistent charting album “Super Girl” (charted for 6 weeks in the top 7).

Jin Akanishi tops the singles charts with his latest single “Seasons” just edging out AKB48 subgroup No Sleeves (no3b) and sister group SDN48 who were 2nd and 3rd respectively.

On the album charts the combo album of EXILE and the solo debut album of member Atsushi easily topped while dropping on the last day of the week (January 1st). In second is a bit of a surprise as Girls Generation’s album “Shoujo Jidai” released back on June 1st got a huge surge of sales most likely due to the many year end concert/TV show appearances by Girls Generation.

Oricon_thumb2SMAP tops the singles charts with “Boku no Hanbun”, their 13th consecutive number 1 single. Second spot goes to L’Arc~en~Ciel and their 39th single “CHASE” which is also featured as the theme song for the movie “Wild 7.” Acid Black Cherry hits the number 3 spot with their 4th release of a 5 consecutive release project, “CRISIS.”

On the album charts FUNKY MONKEY BABYS newest “FUNKY MONKEY BABYS 4” easily took top honors. In the 2nd-5th spots are 4 best-of albums from Ketsumeishi which were released simultaneously. No other artist has filled 4 of the top 5 spots at the same time on the album charts.

ABK48, KARA, aiko, Ikimonogakari, 2NE1, Koda Kumi, and Kana Nishino are just part of the huge line-up of performing at this year’s “Best Hit Song Festival 2011.” The annual show has set their line-up of 17 artists to perform live at the broadcast venue Kobe World Memorial Hall.  Produced by Yomiuri TV (YTV) the event is to be broadcast live on NTV Thursday 7:00-9:00pm November 24th. For the 3rd year in a row the show will be hosted by Eiji Wentz, Maki Nishiyama, and Seiji Miyane.

The traditional awards usually presented at this show, the “Grand Prix” and “Newcomer of the Year” will be held back in respect of the victims and many charitable works by artists as a result of this past March’s Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. Previously EXILE had won the “Grand Prix” award the past 3 years.
