The charts for December 2011 are dominated by another 1+ million selling single by AKB48 with their “Uekara Mariko” selling a huge 1,273,748 and putting it nearly 1 million ahead of the second place single. The rest of the top 5 singles is dominated by boy groups with Kis-My-Ft2, KAT-TUN, Tohoshiniki, and SMAP landing in the 2nd through 5th spots.

On the album side EXILE with album that includes member ATSUSHI’s solo debut “EXILE JAPAN/ Solo” takes the #1 spot with 350,277 sold. This album dropped on January 1st 2012 which was included in the last chart of the 2011 and they sold another 150,000+ the first week of January. In the #2 spot is Perfume and their album “JPN” just ahead of KARA’s consistent charting album “Super Girl” (charted for 6 weeks in the top 7).

Landing in the #1 spot for singles is Johnny’s Entertainment group NYC (featuring member Yuma Nakayama) and their single “Wonderful Cupid/NYC Glass no Maho” with about 40,000 sold. Singles week chart preview 2012 January 2nd – 8th

A very quiet week for new releases after New Years and based on the Oricon daily numbers for singles the #1 spot will go to Johnny’s Entertainment group NYC (featuring member Yuma Nakayama) and their single “Wonderful Cupid/NYC Glass no Maho” with about 39,000 sold. This single was set for release on January 4th but came out the week before and charted 4th, don’t know why it got the earlier release.

Second spot should go to idol group YGA and their newest single “Rising Sun Japan!” with approximately 16,000 sold. Third spot looks to go to last weeks #2, AKB48 unit No Sleeves (nob3) and their single “Pedicure Day.

Jin Akanishi tops the singles charts with his latest single “Seasons” just edging out AKB48 subgroup No Sleeves (no3b) and sister group SDN48 who were 2nd and 3rd respectively.

On the album charts the combo album of EXILE and the solo debut album of member Atsushi easily topped while dropping on the last day of the week (January 1st). In second is a bit of a surprise as Girls Generation’s album “Shoujo Jidai” released back on June 1st got a huge surge of sales most likely due to the many year end concert/TV show appearances by Girls Generation.

OriconA strong month for powerhouses Arashi (#1 single, #7 album), AKB48 (#7 single) and its sister group SKE48 (#2 single) and subgroups Not Yet (#4 single), French Kiss (#5 single), and Johnny’s Entertainment groups Sexy Zone (#3 single) and Kanjani8 (#2 album) on the monthly charts.

KARA – perhaps the hottest female idol group out of Korea these days managed to top the album charts with their release “Super Girl”. Two real ‘super girls’ – YUI was #3 on the album charts and singer/voice actress Nana Mizuki was #6.

Girls-Generation-Japan-Tour

Girls’ Generation (Shoujo Jidai) will release DVD & Blu-ray covering their live performances during “JAPAN FIRST TOUR GIRLS’ GENERATION,” and release date is set for December 14.

The release will come on both DVD and Blu-ray and in two specifications each with Limited Edition and a Regular Edition. Limited edition extras will differ by DVD or BD version and include a pin badge set and photo book of “FIRST JAPAN TOUR MEMORIAL BOOK GIRLS GENERATION.”  Cover Jackets and more details follow,

Arashi dominated the singles charts with week with “Meikyu Love Song” selling over 530,000 copies. It was the mega-boy group’s 32nd single to hit #1. The girls of Perfume made a good showing in the second spot with their latest single “SPICE.” With her first single in over 2 years, Shiina Ringo and “Carnation” hit the charts in the #5 spot.

On the album charts favorite YUI easily took care of the #1 spot with her release “HOW CRAZY YOUR LOVE.” YUI has been very busy lately but not too busy to have her 5th consecutive #1 selling album. Girls Generation (Shoujo Jidai) album “The Boys” stayed strong for the second week, slipping from #2 to #3. 

Maki Goto making what could be her final album release as a single artist with “Ai Kotoba (VOICE)” charted #8. It’s the first top ten for Goto in quite a while (2004). The former Morning Musume member previously announced an indefinite hiatus starting next year though after joining a recent performance with the other former Morning Musume members that form Dream Morning Musume, Goto indicated she would be very interested in doing more performances with Dream Morning Musume.
