
The single charts for the week of May 2nd are topped by SMAP with their 47th single “Sakasama no Sora” selling over 135,000 copies. The single is a collaboration is famous composer Yoko Kanno and is featured on the TV drama “Ume-chan Sensei”. Landing in the second spot is solo release by AKB48 member Tomomi Itano with 72,000 copies sold. Seiyuu group Sphere and their single “Non stop road / Ashita e no Kaerimichi” that features the opening and ending theme to the anime “Natsuiro Kiseki” developed specifically for the group of singers/seiyuus hits the #6 spot on the charts.
On the album charts its Yuzu topping with a compilation album “YUZU YOU [2006-2011]” with nearly 150,000 copies sold. In the second spot is Hilcrhyme with the Gold version of their best hits release “Best of Hilcrhyme ~GOLD~” selling 18,000 copies. Their Silver version “Best of Hilcrhyme ~SILVER~” also charted in the #7 spot with over 15,000 copies sold (release details).

Ikimonogakari new single “Haruuta”, written specifically for the current anime movie of the Detective Conan franchise, is due out this week on April 25th. “Detective Connan: 11 Hitome no Striker” movie opened in theaters on April 14th and over half a million went to see it opening weekend ranking it easily in the #1 spot. Kis-My-Ft2 continues their streak with another solid #1 with their third single “SHE! HER! HER!” (release details) that easily tops the weekly Oricon charts with over 192,000 sold. In the number two spot and also making a strong showing is those Korean girls of KARA and their double A-single “Speed Up / Girls Power” (release details) selling 99,000+ copies.
The AKB48 sub-unit DiVA lands in the number three spot with “Lost the way” (release details) and pop diva Namie Amuro is number four with her double A-single “Go Round / YEAH-OH” (release details).
Over on the album charts rock band Acid Black Cherry’s first #1 with album “2012” (release details) topping the weekly charts with over 117,000. Not too far back in the second spot is diva queen Ayumi Hamasaki and her new album “Party Queen” (release details) selling strong with over 97,000 sold.
Making the charts in the number 9 spot is May’n with her 3rd album “HEAT” (release details) – she is well known for providing many anime tie-in songs. The boys of Tohoshinki with their Spring ballad “STILL” easily takes the #1 spot for the March 21st singles charts with over 138,000 sold (release details). Dropping out of the #1 spot and landing in the #2 spot is Arashi and their single “Wild at Heart” selling just over 46,000 but that makes their 2 week total nearly 600,000 copies sold (release details).
The girls from RAINBOW and their new Japanese single “Gonna Gonna GO!” land in the #7 spot (release details). And sounding out the top 10 is singer/seiyuu Nana Mizuki with another release tied to the musical anime Symphogear.
The album charts get the final release from SDN48, “NEXT ENCORE” in the top spot with over 48,000 sold (release details). In the second spot with another 41,000 copies sold is Ikimonogakari and their album “NEWTRAL” which held the top spot for the past 2 weeks. They just edged out miwa and her album “guitarium” selling just over 40,000 copies. And the girls of AFTERSCHOOL with their new album “PLAYGIRLZ” has a good opening week landing in the #8 spot with over 16,000 copies sold (release details).

Tohoshinki hits 2012 with their Spring ballad “STILL” and will land in the #1 spot on the weekly Oricon charts with over 130,000 sold.
Over on the album charts well…. its really too close to make a good prediction for the top spot. In the mix will be SDN48 with their final album “NEXT ENCORE”, miwa with her album “guitarium”, and Ikimonogakari who has been in the top spot for two weeks in a row with “NEWTRAL”. All three should have over 40,000 sold but SDN48 with a very strong pre-order total on the first day may narrowly take the top spot…..

Dominating the weekly single charts for March 14th is super group Arashi and their single “Wild at Heart” selling just over 550,000 copies (release details). SDN48 and their final single “Makeoshimi Congratulations” edged into second spot with over 74,000 copies sold (release details). They just beat out J Soul Brothers and their single “Go my way” which sold over 68,000 copies (release details). Over all it was a strong week of new singles with only one single, last week’s #1 from Yamapi holding the number ten spot this week, otherwise all other singles are new releases.
On the album charts last weeks number one remains in the top spot this week – popular group Ikimonogakari’s and their album “NEWTRAL” (release details) selling another 83,000. Not far back in the number two spot is Jin Akanishi’s newest album “JAPONICANA” with over 69,000 sold (release details). Yamashita Tomohisa’s (Yamapi) new release “I, TEXAS” edges into the top spot on the singles charts with over 126,000 sold but very close in the second spot is AKB48 member Mayu Watanabe and her debut solo release “Synchro Tokimeki” with over 123,000 sold. Landing in the third spot is T-ARA with “Roly-Poly” [release details] selling over 41,000.
On the album charts no question for number one this week with popular group Ikimonogakari’s latest album “NEWTRAL” [release details] selling over 192,000. Number two goes to the anime Fullmetal Alchemist opening/ending theme (both original series and Brotherhood) compilation album (author needs to buy that album).
