Hey! Say! JUMP and their first single release for 2012 “SUPER DELICATE” top the singles charts with a strong over 248,000 sold. Making their debut idol group Nogizaka46 with “Guru Guru Curtain” lands in second spot with 136,000 sold. The girls of SCANDAL and their long awaited single and perhaps one of the last BLEACH opening theme songs “Harukaze” ends up in 5th with almost 26,000 sold.
On the album charts the boys also take the top stop with KAT-TUN and their album “Chain” selling over 103,000 copies. AI and her first album in over 2 years “INDEPENDENT” edges into the second spot with over 20,000 sold. The album includes the theme song for anime movie Berserk – “Utsukushikimono”. Seiyuu/singer Yui Horie is a close 3rd with “Himitsu” and close to 19,000 sold.

The charts for December 2011 are dominated by another 1+ million selling single by AKB48 with their “Uekara Mariko” selling a huge 1,273,748 and putting it nearly 1 million ahead of the second place single. The rest of the top 5 singles is dominated by boy groups with Kis-My-Ft2, KAT-TUN, Tohoshiniki, and SMAP landing in the 2nd through 5th spots.
On the album side EXILE with album that includes member ATSUSHI’s solo debut “EXILE JAPAN/ Solo” takes the #1 spot with 350,277 sold. This album dropped on January 1st 2012 which was included in the last chart of the 2011 and they sold another 150,000+ the first week of January. In the #2 spot is Perfume and their album “JPN” just ahead of KARA’s consistent charting album “Super Girl” (charted for 6 weeks in the top 7).

For the second week ten new singles have hit the Oricon weekly charts and the boys from KAT-TUN are on top with their 17th consecutive #1 single “BIRTH.” Korean mega-duet Tohoshinki (TVXQ) in a strong second spot with their winter ballad “Winter Rose.” No weekly chart these days can exist without an AKB48 or spinoff group – this week its subunit Watarirouka Hashiritai 7 and their 9th single “Kibou Sanmyaku”

“BIRTH” is KAT-TUN’s newest single and was chosen as the theme song for member Kamenashi Kazuya’s upcoming drama “Yokai Ningen Bem” (will start on October 22nd 9PM). The single is now set to drop November 30th.
“Yokai Ningen Bem”, is a live-action drama adapted from twice produced anime of the same name (1968, 2006) and centers on the lives of Bem, Bera and Berro, three yokai (spirits) who fight against other yokai and monsters that attack humans. Kame will be starring as Bem, alongside actress Anne and child actor Suzuki Fuku who will play Bera and Berro, respectively.
Tower Records released a bit of news on the single “BIRTH” – it will be released in three editions though the full track lists aren’t yet known nor have the CD covers been released.

KAT-TUN will host a new variety show on NTV tentatively titled “KAT-TUN no Zettai Manetaku Naru TV”. It will be their first the ending of “Cartoon KAT-TUN” in March 2010. The new show’s theme will have the members of KAT-TUN presenting interesting people that “you will want to be like”. It will also present various goods and what’s creating the new trends.
Each member will be in charge of different areas based on their interests; For example, Kamenashi Kazuya will cover food and sports-related topics, Tanaka Koki will deal with music and recent hot spots, and Nakamaru Yuichi will handle new products and daily living.
Guests on the show will be pressed to choose which KAT-TUN members presented something that “you would not want to imitate” forcing those members to participate in a penalty game, possibly drawing on other recent trends.
Taguchi Junnosuke commented, “Our concerts got postponed this year, and the five of us weren’t able to release an album, so I’m very happy that we are able to work together on something.” KAT-TUN has been a five-member group since last July, when Akanishi Jin officially left to pursue a solo career.
“KAT-TUN no Zettai Manetaku Naru TV” will air on Tuesday nights from 11:58pm to 12:29am, starting on October 18.
