
This week’s singles charts saw three big single releases but in the end it was another #1 for Arashi with “Face Down” (release details) selling over 520,000 copies. Typical strong sales for this mega group that’s only matched by a few others these days. In a strong second spot was NMB48 with “Nagiichi” (release details) their first single not to chart #1. They sold over 375,000 copies, more than either of their #1 charting previous three did but coming out the same week as Arashi was bad luck for the idol group. Rounding out the top 3 is SUPER JUNIOR and their Japanese single “Opera” (release details) with a solid 160,000 copies sold.
May’n and her new single “Chase the world” – (release details) – featured as opening theme for anime ACCEL WORLD charted a respectable 7th and selling close to 17,000 copies.
On the album charts Mr. Children tops the first two spots with simultaneous release of greatest hits albums, “Mr. Children 2005-2010 MACRO” and “Mr. Children 2001-2005 MICRO” selling a super strong over 700,000 copies each!! Nothing else….

This week’s singles charts are topped by idol group Nogizaka46 with “Oide Shampoo” - their 2nd single and first number one charting single with over 155,000 copies sold (release details). In second is AKB48 member Sashihara Rino’s solo release “Soredemo Sukidayo” selling a strong 124,000 copies. The third spot is YUKI with double-A side single “Playball / Sakamichi no Melody” – (release details) – the second track is featured as the opening theme song for anime Sakamichi no Apollo (Kids on the Slope).
On the album charts not many new releases and last week’s #1 remains for the second week in a row with Yuzu topping with the compilation album “YUZU YOU [2006-2011]” with another 58,000 copies sold. In second is BENI with her album “COVERS” which as been charting since being released March 21st. The third spot see new release from Shoko Nakagawa (Shokotan) with her best release “Shokotan☆Best ――(°∀°)――!”.

The single charts for the week of May 2nd are topped by SMAP with their 47th single “Sakasama no Sora” selling over 135,000 copies. The single is a collaboration is famous composer Yoko Kanno and is featured on the TV drama “Ume-chan Sensei”. Landing in the second spot is solo release by AKB48 member Tomomi Itano with 72,000 copies sold. Seiyuu group Sphere and their single “Non stop road / Ashita e no Kaerimichi” that features the opening and ending theme to the anime “Natsuiro Kiseki” developed specifically for the group of singers/seiyuus hits the #6 spot on the charts.
On the album charts its Yuzu topping with a compilation album “YUZU YOU [2006-2011]” with nearly 150,000 copies sold. In the second spot is Hilcrhyme with the Gold version of their best hits release “Best of Hilcrhyme ~GOLD~” selling 18,000 copies. Their Silver version “Best of Hilcrhyme ~SILVER~” also charted in the #7 spot with over 15,000 copies sold (release details).

The single charts are topped this week by Mr. Children who released their first single in over three years – “Inori ~ Namida no Kidou”. The single sold over 174,000 copies and is featured as theme song for film “Bokura ga Ita”. In the second spot is INFINITE with “Be Mine” selling over 50,000 copies. Hitting the charts in five spots (4, 6-9) are character singles from the Idolm@ster game franchise – each selling over 30,000 copies.
On the album charts Naoto Inti Raymi with his newest album “Kazauta Caravan” selling 40,000 copies in the top spot. The single charts are topped this week by Sexy Zone and their second single “Lady Diamond” – (release details) – selling over 115,000 copies. Not as big a seller as their first single that topped the charts with over 300,000 copies sold but another #1 single for this shonen group. Second spot goes to the girls of Perfume with “Spring of Life” – (release details) – selling almost 94,000 copies. And rounding out the top three is veteran idol group (that’s gotten much younger) Morning Musume with “Renai Hunter” – (release details) – the single will be current leader and last from the 5th generation (2001) Niigaki Risa’s final with the group as she nears graduation.
On the album charts half of group KinKi Kids Tsuyoshi Domoto with his first solo album in over three years “Shamanippon ~Rakachinotohi~” selling over 72,000. In second lands one of our featured releases – the middle school duo of ClariS and their first album “BIRTHDAY” – (release details) – selling over 52,000 copies.

Topping the single charts is rock group B’z with “GO FOR IT, BABY ~ Kioku no Sanmyaku ~” – the song is featured as CM theme for pepsi NEX and sold over 143,000 copies. The second spot goes to duo from from SUPER JUNIOR – Donghae & Eunhyuk and their dance single “Oppa, Oppa” selling over 68,000 copies (release details). Rounding out the top 10 is the new single from Negoto – “sharp #” – featured as opening theme to anime Mobile Suit Gundam AGE – (release details).

Topping the single charts is Fukuyama Masaharu with “Ikiteru Ikiteku” – his 14th #1 single selling nearly 120,000 copies and he is still the #1 all time selling male solo artist in Japan. In the #2 spot is UVERworld and “7th Trigger” (release details) selling over 52,000 copies. The top two singles from last week Kis-My-Ft2 with “SHE! HER! HER!” and KARA with “Speed Up / Girls Power” land in the 3rd and 4th spots respectively.

Its a great follow up to their 3rd single that charted #1 last week and 3rd this week – these kids are hot. Kis-My-Ft2 continues their streak with another solid #1 with their third single “SHE! HER! HER!” (release details) that easily tops the weekly Oricon charts with over 192,000 sold. In the number two spot and also making a strong showing is those Korean girls of KARA and their double A-single “Speed Up / Girls Power” (release details) selling 99,000+ copies.
The AKB48 sub-unit DiVA lands in the number three spot with “Lost the way” (release details) and pop diva Namie Amuro is number four with her double A-single “Go Round / YEAH-OH” (release details).
Over on the album charts rock band Acid Black Cherry’s first #1 with album “2012” (release details) topping the weekly charts with over 117,000. Not too far back in the second spot is diva queen Ayumi Hamasaki and her new album “Party Queen” (release details) selling strong with over 97,000 sold.

The boys of Tohoshinki with their Spring ballad “STILL” easily takes the #1 spot for the March 21st singles charts with over 138,000 sold (release details). Dropping out of the #1 spot and landing in the #2 spot is Arashi and their single “Wild at Heart” selling just over 46,000 but that makes their 2 week total nearly 600,000 copies sold (release details).
The girls from RAINBOW and their new Japanese single “Gonna Gonna GO!” land in the #7 spot (release details). And sounding out the top 10 is singer/seiyuu Nana Mizuki with another release tied to the musical anime Symphogear.
The album charts get the final release from SDN48, “NEXT ENCORE” in the top spot with over 48,000 sold (release details). In the second spot with another 41,000 copies sold is Ikimonogakari and their album “NEWTRAL” which held the top spot for the past 2 weeks. They just edged out miwa and her album “guitarium” selling just over 40,000 copies. And the girls of AFTERSCHOOL with their new album “PLAYGIRLZ” has a good opening week landing in the #8 spot with over 16,000 copies sold (release details).

Tohoshinki hits 2012 with their Spring ballad “STILL” and will land in the #1 spot on the weekly Oricon charts with over 130,000 sold.
Over on the album charts well…. its really too close to make a good prediction for the top spot. In the mix will be SDN48 with their final album “NEXT ENCORE”, miwa with her album “guitarium”, and Ikimonogakari who has been in the top spot for two weeks in a row with “NEWTRAL”. All three should have over 40,000 sold but SDN48 with a very strong pre-order total on the first day may narrowly take the top spot…..
