On top of the singles charts this week is SMAP with their 50th single “JOY!!” selling over 327,000 copies. In the #2 spot is very popular Korean singer Kim Hyun Joong with his 3rd Japanese single “TONIGHT” with over 115,000 copies sold. Sliding into the #7 spot is Kana Nishino with her first single of 2013 “Believe”.

Just out of the top 10 in #15 is Yoko Hikasa with her 2nd solo single “Owaranai Uta” and #16 is Shoko Nakagawa with single “Zoku Konton”.

Topping the album charts is Korean group INFINITE with their first Japanese album “Koi ni Ochiru Toki”. Just separated by a few 100 copies in #2 is Momoiro Clover Z with their Best Indies compilation album “Iriguchi no Nai Deguchi”. The album had a early release and charted last week or it would have topped this week.

Topping the singles charts is powerful male vocal group Arashi with double-a side single “Calling X Breathless” selling a strong 756,000 copies. Both songs have tie-ins to productions that star group members (more details). In the #6 spot is unit EGOIST (ryo producing, chelly vocals) with their 4th single “All Alone With You” featured as the second ending theme for anime PSYCHO-PASS.

On the album charts its Korean power duo Tohoshinki (TVXQ) with their new Japanese album “TIME” selling over 243,000 copies (more details). In the #3 spot is Acid Black Cherry (yazu) who continues the winter season trend of cover albums with “Recreation 3”. Landing in the #9 spot is GRANRODEO with their greatest hits album “Greatest Hits ~ GIFT REGISTRY ~”.

On top of the singles charts is long time male group SMAP with their 49th single “Mistake! / Battery” selling over 161,000 copies. The #2 spot goes to Perfume with single “Mirai no Museum” that’s featured as the theme song for long running anime franchise Doraemon new movie Doraemon Nobita no Himitsu Dogu Museum (Doraemon Nobita’s Secret Gadget Museum).

Last week’s #1 from mega idol group AKB48 – their 12th million+ selling single “So Long !” – slips into the #3 spot with 50,000 more copies sold.

Topping the album charts is NMB48 with their first album “Teppen Tottande!” selling a strong 328,000 copies. Solo album “D’scover” from BIGBANG member D-LITE lands in the #2 spot. Pop diva Koda Kumi hits the #3 spot with cover song album “Color the Cover” and T.M.Revolution with a self-cover album “UNDER:COVER 2” slides into the #4 spot.

Unit The MONSTERS are preparing to release their debut single “MONSTERS”. The new unit consists of popular male artists Yamashita Tomohisa (Yamapi) and Katori Shingo of SMAP. The single has tie-in as theme song for TBS drama MONSTERS in which Yamapi and Katori are co-staring. The boys of Kis-My-Ft2 continue their streak with another #1 charting single “WANNA BEEEE!!! / Shake it Up”. It easily gained the top spot with over 284,000 copies sold. The girls of Perfume landed in the second spot with “Spending all my time” selling over 84,000 copies.

The album charts are totally dominated by AKB48 and their 4th album release “1830m” selling 870,000 copies – everyone else was far behind.

Topping the charts for singles this week is NMB48 with their well titled 5th single “Virginity” selling over 315,000 copies. Landing in the 5th spot is LiSA with her 2nd solo single “crossing field” that is being used as the opening theme for popular anime “Sword Art Online”.

On the album charts long time male group SMAP released their 20th album “GIFT of SMAP” – topping with 210,000 copies sold. In the second spot is Queen pop-viva Ayumi Hamasaki with her two-CD compilation album of greatest hits “SUMMER BEST” selling 83,000 copies.

Topping the Oricon charts this week is SMAP with their 25th #1 and 48th overall single “Moment” – selling over 136,000 copies. *Its been 9 weeks in a row for male groups, duos, and solo on the top of the single charts.

In second spot is everyone’s favorite seiyuu Nana Mizuki and her double-A single BRIGHT STREAM with the theme songs for the new Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha movie and Dog Days anime. In the number three spot is another anime tie-in with NO NAME the actual and fictitious AKB48 idol unit providing the voice acting and theme songs for anime AKB0048. Rounding out the top 5 is CNBLUE and their 3rd Japanese single “Come on”.

On the album charts #1 for 3 weeks in a row is – Southern All Stars member Kuwata his solo album of greatest hits “I LOVE YOU -now & forever-“ selling another 61,000 copies.

Koda Kumi who just gave birth last week saw her re-mix album “Beach Mix” come in at #4.

Celebrating Vocaloid virtual idol Hatsune Miku’s 5th birthday 3 album of various artists make it into the top 10 of the album charts.

The single charts for the week of May 2nd are topped by SMAP with their 47th single “Sakasama no Sora” selling over 135,000 copies. The single is a collaboration is famous composer Yoko Kanno and is featured on the TV drama “Ume-chan Sensei”. Landing in the second spot is solo release by AKB48 member Tomomi Itano with 72,000 copies sold. Seiyuu group Sphere and their single “Non stop road / Ashita e no Kaerimichi” that features the opening and ending theme to the anime “Natsuiro Kiseki” developed specifically for the group of singers/seiyuus hits the #6 spot on the charts.

On the album charts its Yuzu topping with a compilation album “YUZU YOU [2006-2011]” with nearly 150,000 copies sold. In the second spot is Hilcrhyme with the Gold version of their best hits release “Best of Hilcrhyme ~GOLD~” selling 18,000 copies. Their Silver version “Best of Hilcrhyme ~SILVER~” also charted in the #7 spot with over 15,000 copies sold (release details).

Broadcaster NHK has announced a public live program, “One year from the Earthquake, ‘Ashita e’ Concert” as a milestone to the eastern Japan earthquake. The event will be on March 10th 2012 which marks the one year anniversary. NHK will broadcast 6 hours of live performances held at two venues – Messe Makuhari Event Hall in Chiba and Fukushima Sukagawa in Tohoku. More details and who’s announced as participating follows,

The charts for December 2011 are dominated by another 1+ million selling single by AKB48 with their “Uekara Mariko” selling a huge 1,273,748 and putting it nearly 1 million ahead of the second place single. The rest of the top 5 singles is dominated by boy groups with Kis-My-Ft2, KAT-TUN, Tohoshiniki, and SMAP landing in the 2nd through 5th spots.

On the album side EXILE with album that includes member ATSUSHI’s solo debut “EXILE JAPAN/ Solo” takes the #1 spot with 350,277 sold. This album dropped on January 1st 2012 which was included in the last chart of the 2011 and they sold another 150,000+ the first week of January. In the #2 spot is Perfume and their album “JPN” just ahead of KARA’s consistent charting album “Super Girl” (charted for 6 weeks in the top 7).
