This week’s singles charts are topped by idol group Nogizaka46 with “Oide Shampoo” -  their 2nd single and first number one charting single with over 155,000 copies sold (release details). In second is AKB48 member Sashihara Rino’s solo release “Soredemo Sukidayo” selling a strong 124,000 copies. The third spot is YUKI with double-A side single “Playball / Sakamichi no Melody” – (release details) – the second track is featured as the opening theme song for anime Sakamichi no Apollo (Kids on the Slope).

On the album charts not many new releases and last week’s #1 remains for the second week in a row with Yuzu topping with the compilation album “YUZU YOU [2006-2011]” with another 58,000 copies sold. In second is BENI with her album “COVERS” which as been charting since being released March 21st. The third spot see new release from Shoko Nakagawa (Shokotan) with her best release “Shokotan☆Best ――(°∀°)――!”.

The duo that form Yuzu have a new single “with you” due out May 23rd. The single is the group’s 35th and the title track has a tie-in as theme song for commercial message from Nippon Life Insurance. Yuzu also just released a best hits album “YUZU YOU [2006-2011]” on April 25th – the album charted #1 for the week selling nearly 150,00 copies. Release details on the new single follows,

The single charts for the week of May 2nd are topped by SMAP with their 47th single “Sakasama no Sora” selling over 135,000 copies. The single is a collaboration is famous composer Yoko Kanno and is featured on the TV drama “Ume-chan Sensei”. Landing in the second spot is solo release by AKB48 member Tomomi Itano with 72,000 copies sold. Seiyuu group Sphere and their single “Non stop road / Ashita e no Kaerimichi” that features the opening and ending theme to the anime “Natsuiro Kiseki” developed specifically for the group of singers/seiyuus hits the #6 spot on the charts.

On the album charts its Yuzu topping with a compilation album “YUZU YOU [2006-2011]” with nearly 150,000 copies sold. In the second spot is Hilcrhyme with the Gold version of their best hits release “Best of Hilcrhyme ~GOLD~” selling 18,000 copies. Their Silver version “Best of Hilcrhyme ~SILVER~” also charted in the #7 spot with over 15,000 copies sold (release details).

OriconFor the second week ten new singles have hit the Oricon weekly charts and the boys from KAT-TUN are on top with their 17th consecutive #1 single “BIRTH.” Korean mega-duet Tohoshinki (TVXQ) in a strong second spot with their winter ballad “Winter Rose.” No weekly chart these days can exist without an AKB48 or spinoff group – this week its subunit Watarirouka Hashiritai 7 and their 9th single “Kibou Sanmyaku

Sliding in at the #10 spot is GACKT with “Graffiti” which is featured as the current opening theme song for anime SKET DANCE.

ABK48, KARA, aiko, Ikimonogakari, 2NE1, Koda Kumi, and Kana Nishino are just part of the huge line-up of performing at this year’s “Best Hit Song Festival 2011.” The annual show has set their line-up of 17 artists to perform live at the broadcast venue Kobe World Memorial Hall.  Produced by Yomiuri TV (YTV) the event is to be broadcast live on NTV Thursday 7:00-9:00pm November 24th. For the 3rd year in a row the show will be hosted by Eiji Wentz, Maki Nishiyama, and Seiji Miyane.

The traditional awards usually presented at this show, the “Grand Prix” and “Newcomer of the Year” will be held back in respect of the victims and many charitable works by artists as a result of this past March’s Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. Previously EXILE had won the “Grand Prix” award the past 3 years.
