The 5th installment of the remake of classic anime Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (Uchu Senkan Yamato 2199) has been set. The 5th installment covers episodes 15 thru 18 and will have a theatrical release opening in Japan April 13th 2013. Also announced is the TV broadcast for the anime beginning in April on MBS/TBS Sundays at 5:00pm. The region free Blu-ray with English subtitles for episodes 15-18 hits stores May 28th 2013. The original Space Battleship Yamato (also known as Star Blazers) 1974 anime series was created by Leiji Matsumoto and covers 26 episodes. The anime follows the story of the human race after being defeated in a war with the Gamilos. Scientists estimate they only have one year left before mankind is wiped out. Now the young officers of the space battleship Yamato must travel across the Magellan Galaxy to retrieve mankind’s last hope to defeat the Gamilos and restore Earth.
The remake is directed by Yutaka Izubuchi (Rahxephon, Patlabor) and Hideaki Anno, director of Evangelion, will design the new series opening sequence. Animation production is handled by AIC and Xebex.
The 4th installment covering episodes 11-14 opened in theaters on January 12th 2013 and its Blu-ray release is getting ready to hit stores on February 22nd 2013. The preview video for the 4th installment follows below the release details…
The 5th Blu-ray (110 minutes) release includes episodes 15 through 18 and includes English subtitles on the region-free disk.
