Voice actress and singer Yoko Hikasa recently announced her first single “Utsukushiki zankoku na sekai” (美しき残酷な世界) with tie-in as ending theme for upcoming Spring 2013 anime Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin). Nearly simultaneously she announced her second single “Owaranai uta” that will be featured as theme song for Summer 2013 anime movie Hal in which she also voices the lead character. As an anime voice actress Yoko Hikasa has released many singles tied to or as a character voice and collaborated with other cast members on anime opening and ending theme songs. Most notably she voiced and released character singles as Mio Akiyama for hit anime K-ON! (2009/2010). She also provided the majority of the vocals for anime’s fictional group Hokago Tea Time which provided the opening and ending theme songs for both seasons and movie (2011) of the popular anime.
Her two upcoming singles with record label Pony Canyon will be her first fully credited to her and (guessing) will be the first to feature her on the cover jacket art of atleast one of the singles’ editions. Anime Attack on Titan is adapted from manga by Isayama Hijime and tells the story of a different world where humans live within walled cities and giants cruelly rule the world outside of these protected areas.
New animation studio WIT Studio in collaboration with Production I.G. is producing the anime. If production and animation quality match the trailer (below) it looks to be a high quality production from the new studio and will be a must watch for the Spring anime season. The anime will air in Japan on MBS and Tokyo MX beginning April 2013.
