BUMP OF CHICKEN has updated the release details for their new single “firefly” which is featured as the theme for Fuji TV drama series “Iki mo Dekinai Natsu” (Breathless Summer") that stars Emi Takei. The full track list and cover jacket has been revealed on the band’s 23rd single. “firefly” is offered in one Regular CD-only edition and will hit stores on September 12th. OriconThe singles top spot easily went to Kis-My-Ft2 and their second single “We never give up!” with more than 245,000 sold. Even though Kis-My-Ft2 has been around since 2005 their major label debut was just this past August and their popularity can’t be questioned as the group was also named ‘rookie of the year’ for total sales ranking by Oricon.

UVERworld and their single “Baby Born & Go/Kinjito” landed in the 2nd spot. And still showing the power of K-ON! the opening and ending theme singles for the K-ON! movie stayed on the charts for the second week dropping to the 9th and 10th spots.

On the album side there were limited new releases for the week though Korean Group Big Bang released their “The Best of BIGBANG” and landed in the number 2 spot. Top spot went to KARA with their album “Super Girl” which has charted now for 4 weeks, never worse than 3rd on the weekly rankings.

kenshin_satotakeruThree new cast-members for the 2012 live-action adaptation of Nobuhiro Watsuki‘s Rurouni Kenshin samurai manga were announced on Tuesday. Previously announced 22-year-old actor Takeru Sato (Kamen Rider Den-O, Rookies, Beck) pictured above is cast as main character, Kenshin.

Keishi Otomo is directing this first live-action adaptation of the famous samurai manga.

The Sankei Sports newspaper reported that the staff aims to release the film internationally and eventually make a series. Warner Brothers Pictures Japan is producing the film with its president William Ireton, and shooting began in July. Studio Swan (Paradise Kiss) is in charge of the actual film production.

Takei Emi has been given her first starring role in a television drama series, with a show tentatively titled “Asukou March!” The drama is a live-action adaptation of Kaori Akiyama’s manga “Asukou March! ~Kenritsu Asuka Kougyou Koukou Koushinkyoku~,” which currently runs in Shueisha’s magazine YOU.

Takei plays Nao Yoshino, a girl who fails the entrance exams of her target high school. She winds up enrolling in a technical high school called Kenritsu Asuka Kougyou Koukou, also known by the nickname “Asukou.” Out of the 148 entering freshmen, only three are girls, and Nao is the only one in her class. Fashion magazine SEVENTEEN held a special summer event for its readers on Wednesday at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo.

During the event, SEVENTEEN unveiled the five young winners of its Miss Seventeen 2010 audition: Nanami Abe (14), Shiori Kitayama (15), Mami Nishino (13), Ayaka Miyoshi (14), and Aoi Morikawa (15).

All five of them, currently junior high students, were chosen from a total of 5,575 applicants. During the event, they made their first runway appearances as SEVENTEEN models, in front of an estimated crowd of 3,000 junior high and high school students.

Lots of celebrities also showed up for the event, including Mirei Kiritani, Aya Omasa, Erena Mizusawa, Emi Takei, Yusuke Yamamoto, Junpei Mizobata, Shohei Miura, and AKB48.
